Fishing – A Great Stress Reliever

Fishing can be a great way to reduce the stress in your life.  Even though it can be very frustrating at times! Merriam-Webster defines stress as “constraining force or influence: such as…a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation”.

Next time you are feeling stressed or anxious consider picking up your rods and heading out for some time on the water.  Fishing can help to:

  1. Get you into the great outdoors.  Fresh air can be a great way to help you relax.  Whether you are freshwater fishing on a lake or out on a deep-sea boat catching some saltwater fish, just being surrounded by nature and fresh air can help to reduce the stresses of daily life.
  2. Remove you from your screens.  Daily life has become a blur of instant gratification and social media.  By all means take your phone fishing with you in case of emergency, but keeping it turned off while fishing can help you to disconnect from the world and give you a chance to reset your proverbial batteries.
  3. Allow you to catch up with old friends.  Daily life can leave us running from one appointment to the next and leaves us with little time to catch up with friends.  Why not give an old friend a call and invite them to come fishing with you for the day?  Not only will it give you some company, but it will allow you to spend time in the company of a friend – what better thing to help with stress relief!

Nothing beats catching fish on a sunny day on the water.  Or even fishing at night!  Especially if you happen to have a few cold beers at the same time.

Enjoy!
