Fluval forms part of the Rolf C. Hagen Group of Companies, who sell a range of pet supplies. The Fluval brand focuses on the aquarium world, selling range of products which includes filters, heaters and the aquariums themselves. Fluval offers a range of aquarium products. But is probably best known for their 206 / 306 / 406 range of filters. The Fluval 206 is the smallest of these filters and is reviewed below.

The Fluval 206 Canister Filter is part of the 06 Series of fish tank filters produced by Fluval. It is suitable for aquariums with a total capacity of 200 liters (approximately 45 gallons). It is known for its powerful motor technology and ability to run quietly. Especially compared to many other filters on the market. The Fluval 206 Canister Filter is made in Italy. It is perfect for those looking for a high quality filter. And is able to keep the water in 45 gallon fish tanks perfectly clear.

Made in Italy, the Fluval 206 Canister Filter has a multi-stage filter pump. It can pump out 206 gallons (780 liters) per hour. It has a filter circulation of approx 121 gallons (450 liters) per hour. And a filtration volume of 4.6 liters (approx. 1.2 US gallons). The Fluval 206 Canister Filter has dimensions of 8 x 7 x 18″ (20 x 18 x 46 cm).

The Fluval 206 can be used for both fresh and saltwater aquariums. It has a square shaped container. And is able to hold up to 50% more water than containers of a similar size that are round in shape. It makes great use of it’s sound dampening design, providing filtration without significant ambient noise. Unlike many other filtration systems on the market! The 206 also comes with a dual level foam screen as well as an intake strainer.

The 06 Series features several improvements on the prior models. Notably:

  • A sound dampening impeller which helps to reduce the noise of the filter

Previous versions of this filter caused some issues with the priming. But these seem to have been rectified in the 06 series. It is easy to set up. Either follow the instructions provided, or use one of the YouTube videos that are available for your assistance.

There is no doubt that Fluval filters are among the best (if not these best) available on the market today. The Fluval 206, has more than enough power to keep a 200 liter fish tank clean and clear. And it is incredibly efficient at doing so.

Some users have complained that the box / packaging of the Fluval 206 appeared to have been opened before. I.e. it may have been a refurbished or repaired model. To ensure the integrity of your product we would recommend that you only by it directly from Fluval via Amazon.

Overall we think that the 06 Series, while not cheap, is a great option for professionals and enthusiasts alike.

“Fluval 06 Series External Filters are guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship under normal aquarium usage and service for 3 years from date of purchase. Non-replaceable and non-serviceable parts will be repaired or replaced at Hagen’s discretion, free of charge, when the complete filter is returned with all components along with a valid proof of purchase and postage paid.

This warranty does not apply to any filter that has been subject to misuse, negligence or tampering. It does not apply to filters which have been incorrectly assembled or unsuitably maintained or where installation and maintenance instructions have not been followed correctly. The warranty does not apply to wear and tear parts such as the impeller, impeller cover or motor seal.

No liability is assumed with respect to loss or damage to livestock or personal property irrespective of the cause thereof. Before returning the filter under warranty terms, please ensure that all setup and maintenance instructions have been followed.
